Moxibustion or moxa is a method of adding heat or energy to a treatment and can be relaxing. There are several ways moxa may be used; loose or on the end of the needle. Loose moxa can be placed on the skin with a protective barrier, burned and produces very little smoke. On a needle, the loose moxa can be pre-formed or come as a charcoal that produces no smoke.

Cupping is a traditional form of therapy originally using horns and suction devices. Currently I use silicone cups since it doesn’t require an open flame to create suction and no concern for broken glass if any of them should drop or lose suction. The cups can be used with oils or lotions to provide a better seal between the skin and cup as well as for ‘moving cupping’ in which the cups can easily glide across the skin while continuing to provide the benefits of a stationary cup.

Acupuncture is extremely safe. It is an all-natural, drug-free therapy, yielding no side effects just feelings of relaxation and well-being. There is little danger of infection from acupuncture needles because they are sterile, used once, and then discarded.
